Choosing A Professional Film Distribution Service

Film distribution is basically the procedure of making a film available for viewing to an audience. This is usually the responsibility of a film distribution company, who would then determine the distribution strategy for the film. Distributors can be film makers themselves, or work for production houses. Distribution companies help to get films into the hands of viewers. In some ways, they act as middlemen for the producer, but they still have control over which films get released and how.

Distribution companies can be either large or small, operating in many different areas. Large distributors like Lions Gate Entertainment, are well known for making movies exclusively for the large independent and foreign theater industries. These include Broadway theaters and video theaters. At the other end of the spectrum, a small film distribution company like indie entertainment is run by individual filmmakers and producers, and focuses on offering local theaters and video experiences.

The most common type of film distribution deals with the nationwide distribution of motion pictures and television shows. This usually involves buying the rights from studios or producers and then getting the movies distributed to every state in the country. For example, if a film is produced in California and gets picked up for distribution in Texas, they would enter into a license agreement with a distributor in Texas, where the film would then be distributed. This national reach is what gives motion picture distribution companies a significant competitive advantage over other small businesses.

Smaller film distribution companies, often started by individual filmmakers, tend to be localized. They tend to purchase the rights from studios or producers in a particular state, and then handle the logistics of getting the film into the hands of viewers in that state. Some of these companies, like Redbox, even manage to deliver products to consumers as far away as New York and Los Angeles. They typically make their money off of subscription fees rather than sales, although they do have some successful marketing strategies.

Film distributors have also become more competitive since digital video has become more popular. The advent of websites such as YouTube and Vimeo has opened up possibilities for film distributors to use viral videos in their film promotion efforts. This makes it much easier for independent filmmakers to get their films known without spending large amounts of money. This is another advantage of having a nationwide distribution company for films.

It might not be easy to market a film at this point in its life. With the rise of internet marketing strategies, it is possible to market a film to a broad audience online before it is even released in the hopes that a film distribution company will pick it up and distribute it for you. Even if no one picked it up at that point, the internet can still provide ample opportunities to promote the movie after its wide release. As long as you have an effective marketing strategy, you can be sure that your motion picture will find its way into the hands of eager viewers.
