As a coach and a pitcher, I always stress that a pitcher's mechanics are the most important factor when determining if they have the ability to throw a fast ball for a strike. For this Fast Ball Report, I went over with him the scouting reports and workouts from last year and this year. The one aspect of his mechanics this year that jumps out is his lack of a loose swing. While he still has some issues with a loose arm slot, he says he feels looser than last year. His secondary pitches have been improved too. One aspect of the batting reports that jumps out is that he has improved his bat speed. Last year, he had a below average bat speed. This year, he has upped his bat speed to include a good soft toss.
